Gazprom to start testing RM Nanotech’s products

August 27, 2014

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of JSC Gazprom, and Anatoly Chubais, Chairman of the Board of MC Rusnano LLC, held a regular joint meeting at JSC Gazprom’s head office to discuss the issues of implementing innovative products at Gazprom production facilities.

The meeting was attended by managers of relevant subdivisions and organisations of JSC Gazprom and RUSNANO.
The meeting attendees approved two trial sites for construction of a gas pipelines from composite pipes.
The first one is a 90-km backup gas pipeline branch to the towns of Salekhard and Labytnangi and the settlement of Kharp,Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. It will be made from pipes of 300, 700 and 1,000 mm in diameter designed for an operating pressure of 7.5 MPa.

The second one is a 14-km backup underwater line (of the Yamburg-Tula-2 gas main) across the Ob River in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. It will require pipes of 1,200 mm in diameter, also designed for an operating pressure of 7.5 MPa.

Gazprom VNIIGAZ LLC will define requirement specifications for target performance of composite pipes and their joints. With regard to these requirements HC Composite will make sample composite pipes and parts and will develop related technologies, which will be put to comprehensive testing. If positive results are obtained, the first and then the second trial gas pipelines will be laid.

“We have made an important step on the way to using composite pipes at Gazprom and identified specific trial sites for gas pipelines. They are located in our strategic regions, which once again shows the importance we attach to this issue,” Alexey Miller said.

Gazprom and Russian nanotech industries continue their active collaboration. Thus, Gazprom Transgaz Yugorsk LLC is about to complete pilot operation of a DC system with Liotekh rechargeable lithium-ion cells designed by Oldham LLC to provide uninterruptable and efficient power supply of industrial facilities.

The testing of a fibre-optic technical state monitoring system for gas pipelines is currently underway at some sections of the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas transport system. it is designed for real-time reception of data on deformation and temperature of pipes and fittings, soil subsidence and defrostation. The tests will be followed by pilot operation of this system at Gazprom’s facilities.

The meeting discussed the application of membrane technologies in Gazprom’s production operations. Thus its subsidiaries are operating more than 300 nitrogen plants manufactured by CJSC GRASYS. This company also takes part in testing a pilot membrane plant for extraction of helium from natural gas, installed by Gazprom at the Kovykta field. The meeting made a decision to recommend the use of GRASYS’ gas-separation plants with domestic membrane elements in Gazprom’s investment projects to carry out the import substitution strategy, subject to a positive feasibility study.
The meeting also analysed the prospects for employing domestic membrane modules made by ZAO RM Nanotech in water treatment plants. Gazprom and RUSNANO agreed, before the end of 2014, to identify industrial facilities of JSC Gazprom Neft and Gazprom Energoholding LLC for performance testing of modules.

Attention was also given to the testing of thermoelectric power generators made by THERMOINTECH LLC. Power generators run on natural gas, allowing them to be used for power production at Gazprom’s industrial facilities located remotely from a power supply network. Gazprom and RUSNANO agreed to carry out pilot testing of generators at Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy LLC.
